8th November 2005 - Jam Night Review

The house band struck up a stunning version of Willie Dixon's 'Standing Around Crying' at dead on 9 o'clock. This was followed by a rendition of 'Born Under A Bad Sign'. Matt had a short bout of 'Alzheimers Lite' and somehow erased the riff from memory. Strangely, he had not played 'Bad' before! Tony Stokes declared afterwards that it had started in the key of 'P' though had attained full potential in the key of G by the end of the intro. Well it is a jam after all. The 'hounds' finished up with a stompin' version of 'Matchbox' featuring guitar / harp interplays between Matt and Tony S. Dave sang his heart out as usual, a truly great performance, and three numbers in succesion all ended together thanks due to rock solid drumming from Jase. The extra PA gear was a marked improvement in the overall sound quality throughout the evening. Those present during the sound checks will also have witnessed versions of 'Stormy Monday', a few verses of 'Killing Floor', a bit of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', some of 'The Stealer' !! and some others that didn't get past the first 3 bars ! for which unreserved apologies were accepted from the performers.
'1,2' .. '1,2' was also mentioned as is tradition when the PA is testing the roadies.

Reggae Stevie this week found himself with a backing band that could really do justice to his chosen songs. With Jason's syncopation and Tony M's bouncin' bass lines Stevie fell right into the groove and through out some classic reggae tracks proving his worthiness to the Marley teachings.

Chris.P and Justin performed a cool version of Clapton's Old Love with some extended soloing from both guitarists.

This week Heather performed Sweet Home Alabamma with Matt and, new to the jam, Steve, on guitars and stayed on to sing backing vocals when Dave joined the stage for a very fast 'Hi Heel Sneekers'. Heather then swapped to lead vocal to complete the finale of the evening including much audience participation with 'Mustang Sally'. A great time was had by all.
The standard of Music from all performers was much improved over previous weeks and all concerned should be congratulated on this achievement. Thanks to all who participated for a really enjoyable evening !! See y'all next week blues buddies !
