Jam Night Review
The Night's House Band
Tony Mottram - Bass
Dave Edwards - Vocal
Matt Thorpe - Guitar
Tony Stokes - Blues Harp
Mario Blowman - Drums
The house band this week were jamming early during the sound check with something that started off as ‘On The Road Again’ (from Justin) but ended up as a real cool shuffle groove in A. This is the true spirit of jamming ! Keeping to a moderate volume level attained during this improvisation they, started off the proceedings at 9pm with ‘Stormy Monday’ followed by ‘Standing Around Crying’ and ‘Matchbox’.

Next group up on ‘the boards’ were Johnny C (gtr) Pete (Bass) Russ (gtr), Evan (Drums) and led by ‘Shakey’ Stuart on vocals and harp. They took us through the Jimmy Redd tune ‘High and Lonesome’ followed by ‘Me and The Devil’ and finished off with the Bo Diddley number ‘You Don’t Love Me’.
The Night's Gear
Fender Bassman 100 Head + Laney 4x10 Cab (bass)
Marshall JMP1 + 8080 PowerAmp + SE50 effects (guitar)
Cornford Harlequin (guitar)
Pearl Drum kit
Our very own Reggae Stevie appeared next, this week sporting his black Les Paul. A solid change from his transparent AXL guitar used at his last appearance at the club. ‘Hey Joe’, ‘Knocking On Heavens Door’ and ‘Your World And Mine’ were performed (again?!) with Mario on drums, Justin (gtr) and introducing Joe Ronson from local band Angelo, on bass. Joe is the son of Mick Ronson guitarist with David Bowie’s Spiders from Mars. Joe plays many instruments and is new to the jam night so we look forward to seeing him again perhaps playing in a different position also!

A tremendous set was performed by Heather (vocal) , Russ (gtr), Justin (gtr)
Rich (bass) with Evan on drums and Tony Stokes on Harp. They did the Doobies ‘Long Train Runnin’, ‘Walking By Myself’ and ‘Hoochie Coochie Gal’. Great dynamics in this set and a nice bass solo from Rich.

It was good to see Des back at the club on vocal for the next set with Matt (gtr), Johnny C (gtr), Evan (drums and Tony S on harp. They rocked us through ‘Jumpin Jack Flash’ and ‘Black Magic Woman’.

The House band returned to the stage to perform ‘The Hunter’ with Dave (vocal) Tony M (bass) Matt (gtr) Tony S Harp and Mario on drums.

They were then joined by Justin (gtr) and Heather (bkg vocal) for a rendition of Johnny B Goode and he certainly was!

The night showed many of the jammers performing a variety of new material and it was noted by all who repeated ‘That was a great night !’
