Tonight’s ‘Sultans of Swing’ were already boogieing before the flag went up at 9pm there was no stopping the jam hungry on this particularly mild winter’s night. At this point in the proceedings early arrivals will have witnessed a key changing (G > A >) Shuffle, Wall St Shuffle Blues (a blues based on another well known riff), Howling At My Baby. The proceedings started properly when Heather joined the group on vocals. ‘Let The Good Times Roll’ being the official opener. ‘Stormy Monday’ the ‘Smoke on the Water’ of every blues jam night was re-lived in the key of A. Justin’s solo went a little bizarre and strange!!. They finished up with ‘Walkin’ By Myself’.
Next up were ‘Aussie’ group members Dave Vocal, Gary H Guitar, Gary C Bass and Joe Drums they gave us ‘Mess of the Blues’, ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ and ‘Johnny B Goode’. Things went of the rails slightly at this point in the proceedings. Will anyone who can sing please note that they would be doing the jam night and audience a great service by turning up and so preventing Tony M doing what he did next !!!! Tony M Vocals (and reading) Tom Guitar, Johhny C Guitar, Gary C Bass, Richard Drums. ‘Rock Me Baby’ and ‘Slow Blues In C’ Next up we had Heather Vocals, Tom Guitar, Gary H Guitar, Rich Bass, Mario Drums. ‘Wishing Well’, Tom left the stage and they continued with ‘Summer of ‘69’ and ‘All Right Now’ Heather remained on Vocal whilst the band changed to Matt Guitar, Justin Guitar, Rich Bass, Mario harp, Gaz on drums. ‘Hoochie Coochie Gal’, ‘Love Me Like A Man’ and ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’. Change round on stage back to the House band plus Heather pounded through ‘Got My Mojo Workin’. Heather then retreated as the real jamming commenced with an almost 15 min Jam around the ‘On The Road Again’ type riff in A. This featured some fine soloing from Justin, some extraordinary interplay between Stokes (harp) and Thorpe (Guitar) who also threw in a few hard rock pyrotechnics just to extend the dynamic. The players staggered from the stage, ears bleeding ….. This has to have been one of the quietest nights in terms of attendance by both musicians and audience. To keep the jam alive please support this local event by turning up regularly. It is your jam night for you the players !! Don’t take it for granted ! Support the jam night by attending !! |
