There was an excellent turnout this week both in terms of players and audience.

The evening was kicked off by the House Band with Stormy Monday and Standing Around Crying with excellent vocals by Dave. The band was then joined by Steve Cash who treated us to an equally good rendition of Crossroads – raising the bar very high for the following acts!

Next up was Heather (vox), Simon (gtr), Dino (gtr), Evan (drums), Richard (Bass), Jim (sax), Geezer (keyboard). A large band which nevertheless delivered an extremely tight sound – firstly with Let the Good Times Roll and then followed by Love Me Like a Man. The latter song also included an all too rare contribution by Mario on harp - great stuff!

Cold Shot (Chris (vox, gtr), Matt (gtr), Mario (drums) and Pete (Bass)) were up next and took the opportunity to rehearse a couple of numbers in advance of their gig at the Plough and Harrow on Saturday. They delivered Nothing to Do with Love, A Fool for your Stockings and You Do Something to Me. Difficult for me as reviewer to provide too much analysis here – but the songs seemed to go down well.

Turnaround time and another large band took the stage: Steve Cash (vox), Mike (gtr), Johnny C (gtr), Phil (bass), Geezer (keyboard), Jim (sax), Tony (harp), Doug (drums). Again, a super tight sound from such a large ensemble and we were treated to Have You ever Loved a Woman and Tore Down.

The large number of musicians meant a quick change after 2 numbers and up next were: Simon (Bass, Vox and excellent hat!), Pete (gtr), Jason (Drums), Tom (gtr). Born Under a Bad Sign and Hey Joe proved excellent vehicles for Tom to show just how far he has come on recently – some superb soloing eliciting looks of approval from the rest of the band – and audience!

Another change and Stevie (vox, gtr) was joined by Dino (gtr), Paul (Bass) and Jase (drums) treated us to Freedom Train and In the Midnight Hour.

Last up this evening were Lee (vox), Johnny G (gtr), Simon (gtr), Rich (bass), Gordon (drums). Begore You Accuse Me was followed by Tore Down. Then Sally joined in to give a rare rendition of Mustang Sally, before leaving the others to round off a great evening with Superstition.

This really was an excellent night all round – well attended and some really great music. Roll on next week!

Chris Perrin.
