Again a fairly busy night though fewer non-musicians were in the audience. The jam commenced with the House band taking us through some tunes led by Chris Perrin with Matt on the other guitar. Good to also see Jason back at the jam.
Chris then stayed up while ¾ of the Mavericks joined him on stage for another set. Big John gave us a ripping vocal performance to some excellent country/rockabilly picking from Darren playing his ’51 Tele – a dazzling display of dynamics and dexterity ! Jonny G twanged his thang notably inspired by the whole occasion. Norman (vocal and harp) also led this group through a couple of standards. Heather did some tunes with her band plus Jason on drums. Guitarist Greg must have been in motherly angst as he took to the stage sucking his dummy! Might have been nerves! Nevertheless an excellent performance of ‘Come On Into My Kitchen’. The house band finished off the evening with a lengthy version of ‘Sympathy For The Devil’ with Jonny G plugged into the other channel of Tony’s Bassman amp. The guitars of Matt and Jonny screamed and moaned as they both tore out the frets. The audience were once again sent home with their collective ears ringing …… |
