Cliff’s original group was called the T.P. Waterhouse Jug Band and Electric Screendoor Salesmen. They played on the bill with acts ranging from Question Mark and the Mysterians (of “96 Tears” fame) to the Shadows of Knight (“Gloria”), the 1910 Fruitgum Co. and Joe Walsh’s original band, The James Gang.

He later wrote original blues tunes for a group called Just the Blues (Chris Kleeman and Malcolm Gibson) who were discovered in a New York blues club by B.B. King, who produced their first album.

While performing on the club circuit in southwestern Ohio, Cliff met George Powell, a fellow singer/guitarists who co-founded the Pure Prairie League. Cliff became the manager and within months RCA signed the group to a multi album contract.

One of the first songs they learned was Cliff’s, “Country Song,” which is on their debut album, their live album and was later covered by various other country rock and bluegrass bands.

Somewhere along the way a relatively unknown singer named Vince Gill joined the band and had his first charted singles fronting PPL.

Currently Cliff has been writing a lot of new material that he describes as, “Blues, Ballads and Buffoonery.” He performs mostly as a solo act in a variety of venues around San Luis County, ranging from clubs to winery events.

Cliff now has a full time band, The Cliffnotes, already legendary for getting crowds up and dancin'. Band members include: Dr. Stan "The Hammer" Hamrick on bass, Scott "JJ" Jeffries on lead guitar, Wayne "Walk This Way" Walcoff on keyboard, Joe From Chicago on blues harp and Dan "Boom Boom" Garcia on drums.
