The Rock, Mon Sept 26th
It was an interesting night. 1 week before the gig two bands pulled out and I hastily re-scheduled two other bands, Nurse and Something for Someone to play along with Raison D’etre and the Holloh. I was worried before the bands pulled out that we’d only get 10 people coming in, for many reasons, but mainly because it was +18s and on a Monday. Then on the day poor Nurse had been taken sick and couldn't make it. Fiddle sticks. Well, we got 3 times that and actually more than the manager had expected. We were first on, it was a week where we were playing three gigs and this one was the first and most pressurising. But we did okay and the people who were there clapped and applauded, maybe in the same way as they would a street urchin with a harmonica, but all the same it was nice. Something for Someone were on next and provided a great set, jumping into the crowd and launching themselves from all angles into the fray. After their last song people were impressed and many felt entertained. The Holloh were the last band on and managed to really make it worth while. Their set didn’t rely on any of the songs from their debut E.P Falling Under Cars Kills, but it still lasted a good 30 minutes and previewed new song Does It Beat to their hardcore audience, and the hardcore drinkers of Cirencester. The best aspect of the Holloh was their mascot, Breakdance Bob, who managed to get everyone in the crowd going with his enthusiastic handstands and crab dancing (it looked like the yogic crab, so I suppose that’s what it’ll have to be called). Afterwards I was disappointed that more people didn’t come, but I was fuelled on by the fact that this had been a dry run and had proved that there were good bands out there, and now we’ll be taking the show to Friday’s and Saturday’s. Hope to see you all there soon. |
