On the subject of This man has changed my life !!!!! During a night of playing the top 20 rock intrumental tracks on mp3.com, I stumbled across Matt Thorpes "Fret Jive". I could hardly believe my ears. This track is sheer musical poetry. I soon became a Matt fan, and by Xmas had the entire collection of CD's. all masterpieces. The attention to detail is awesome, every note milked to the last drop. It's easy to think (as I did ), that a Les Paul & a JMP1 will give you this sound, but it's Matt's technique thats the secret. Must rush to buy 7th Frets .... PS the collaboration with John Cohner is magic ....

On the subject of Thanks for keeping the Blues alive! Matt, have bought several of your CD's off of MP3.com the past couple of years and always come looking for new releases!! You mention in your bio that you kind of lost touch with the music when punk came out, but then Stevie Ray came on the scene and saved us from a boring death - how ture that is - but you have brough light and life back to the music just as stevie did. Johnny Lang and Kenny Wayne are good, but you walk all over them. Never stop playing that Les Paul, you can't get a better sound that is so rich and full as well as sustain or that growling anger or hurt that it produces. The Strat is beautiful too, but for a wide range of emotions, the Paul just has it. Much GREAT sucess and keep the music coming!!!

Take it from me, you will never meet a more unassuming, modest and gifted human being. I have had the great good fortune to have appeared with Matt on many occasions, we have shared the ups and downs of every bar room blues band. Let me tell you, no matter how seedy the venue or how small & unappreciative the crowd may be, Matts playing transcends all and leaves the truly appreciative in awe! And that's no lie! On the subject of Feeling and emotion..... I first happened across one of Matt's tracks on mp3.com about a couple of months ago. It was "A Gunslinger's Blues", and man, it totally blew me away. This man is a guitar genius! I immediately started looking for any CD's of his here in the UK, but either I'm looking in the wrong places or the UK music industry is missing out on another Gary Moore, IMHO. On the subject of Thanks for keeping it alive! Hey Matt! Great guitar stuff there! I'm cruisin' the same path here in Flint, Michigan with the Buick City Blues Band. We have the legendary Larry McCray living just down the road from us and we get together quite often. How is it getting blues gigs in England??? It's pretty tough around here. This is an industrial town, and the people that come out to the clubs want to hear nothing but classic rock hits and just general radio trash. We're still doing it though, and have been since '94.
