About:

About: Valencia is an alternative rock/power pop band from Philadelphia. The band consisted of five members until June 2011 when guitarist JD Perry left for personal reasons, but is still on good terms with the other members. Valencia continued their touring on the "Zumiez Couch Tour" with guitarist and friend Trevor Leonard. The permanent members of the band currently consist of: Shane Henderson on vocals, Daniel Pawlovich on drums, George Ciukurescu playing bass, and Brendan Walter on guitar.

Valencia was formed by mates meeting each other while playing in different bands in the local music scene in the Tri-State area from New Jersey and Philadelphia up to New York City. Officially formed under the name Valencia in 2004, they borrow the moniker from Kurt Vonnegut's harrowing time travel novel Slaughterhouse-Five, in which the wife of the protagonist is named Valencia.

In 2005 they participated in the Vans Warped Tour and were signed to I Surrender records, releasing their first album This Could be a Possibility. After playing alongside bands like We The Kings, All Time Low and The Cab, Valencia went back into the studio in 2008 to record their second album. Released on Columbia Records, We all need a Reason to Believe peaked on the U.S. Billboard Heatseekers list at #6 while the band spent their time touring for the album with similar bands like New Found Glory, Say Anything, and Every Avenue.

Just this past October, after a tour marathon and a much-needed break, Valencia ventured back into the studio to record their third album. Released again on I Surrender Record, Dancing with a Ghost also found its way to the U.S. Billboard Heatseekers chart at #11.

To support the release the band has toured and even headlined some shows, as well as played alongside bands such as Saves the Day, Motion City Soundtrack and the previously mentioned Say Anything.

Combining a softer side of the post-punk sound along with the musical talent to explore different dynamics of sound, Valencia has steadily carved out a growing and dedicated fan base. Shane Henderson's sincere and melodic voice is driven by thoughtful and reflective lyrics ranging from everyday life to introspection on personal tragedy. The bands' timing and quick, shuffling change of pace on some songs has an addictive quality that makes them stand out from many of the other similar sounding bands of the same genre range. Valencia has been steadily gaining in popularity, moving up the board during festivals and drawing headlining shows at other venues.

They are currently on tour with Forever the Sickest Kids and I See Stars.
