Shortway is a trio of rockers that hail from the Northwest, Portland specifically, and their sound is prototypical grunge—crunching guitars, strong vocal pipes and unpredictable time signatures. The production on this recording is a little flat, giving the album a gritty feel. Some songs veer towards a prog rock bent; it seems this band’s influences are a plenty.

The songs and musicianship should pass muster, however, even among discerning ears. And though much of their sound echo’s that of late 90’s Seattle’s finest, the 13 tracks on Stillpoint flow one song to the next with enough variation and originality to carry a listener through the entire album.

Favorite Track: Track 13, “The Grey State”
