OnlineRock
Producing Compilation CD to Promote Member Bands
Disc to Highlight Talented Artists Offering Downloadable Music
for Sale
PALO
ALTO, Calif., January 4, 2000 OnlineRock,
a Web community giving musicians, music professionals and fans free
tools and services to promote their music, will soon begin production
of a compilation CD featuring OnlineRock artists. OnlineRock will
distribute hundreds of the CDs to industry professionals, members
of the press and other interested parties. Bands whose songs appear
on the compilation will each receive 50 CDs to distribute at will.
The purpose
of the compilation is twofold: to provide another promotional venue
for member bands and artists, and to emphasize to both the general
public as well as musician community that a growing number of artists
are starting to sell their music in downloadable format on the Web.
OnlineRock will consider songs for the compilation from any band that
registers to build its free Web site at OnlineRock, and uploads three
songs to its OnlineRock music store.
"We
are trying to catalyze the awareness of digital music, not only among
music fans and consumers, but also musicians themselves," said
Steve Beck, president of OnlineRock. "The compilation CD will
be a great way to showcase some of the artists selling downloadable
music at OnlineRock."
15 songs
from various artists will be included. The liner notes will include
a short bio on each band along with the Web address of their OnlineRock
site and store. OnlineRock lets any artist sell downloadable songs
for $1.49, with the artist receiving $1.00 for every download.
