2006 Year in Pictures
Here is a stunning visual
reflection of music in 2006 by photographer Hali McGrath.
Hali
McGrath began shooting live music professionally while
living in Sydney, Australia in 1993. Raised as a gypsy
by her hippie mom, she's lived in 75 different places
in both the United States and Europe. "I fell in love
with music at an early age. Moving around so much I listened
to music all the time - it was the one consistent thing
in my world and it was often my main source of comfort
in a chaotic lifestyle." Some
of Hali's first introductions to music were George Harrison's
'Concert for Bangladesh,' 'Tommy,' 'The Song Remains
the Same,' and 'Janis.' Other early musical icons who
have shaped her life include John Lennon, Bob Dylan and
Jimi Hendrix. Bands such as The Who, Led Zeppelin and
Sly & The Family Stone inspired a fascination with
the co-operative aspects of making music. "I'm totally
awestruck by the art of music and the people who make
it. I love to see the interaction between the musicians
and the audience - musicians are so generous. To play
music in front of people is like being naked, baring
it all in the name of passion."
