Omnidirectional mic with the B4 capsule from Blue's flagship Bottle mic.
Based on the unique and versatile design of the popular Mouse Microphone, the Blue OmniMouse is a small
diaphragm perspex omni condenser microphone featuring a rotating omnidirectional capsule enclosed within a spherical grille.
This is the same B4 capsule used in Blue's world-renowned Bottle microphone system.
This precision recording tool
combines the low noise and superb transient response of top-grade modern electronics with crisp, detailed high frequency response.
Exceptional musicality and increased high frequency focus make the OmniMouse studio mic ideally suited to classical ensemble
and large orchestra recording. Its ability to capture direct sound as well as the ambient environment are perfect for recording
sources where room tone is desired; anything from live drums and percussion, to vocal groups and horn sections. The Blue OmniMouse
microphone works well in a single mic set up, as a stereo pair, or trio in a triangulated Decca Tree configuration.
Why
choose an omni mic?
The advantages of omni mics are many. First of all, while many use directional mics to avoid leakage from other mics
in a multi-mic live setup, leakage can be a good thing if it's properly handled. Good-sounding leaking is called ambience
and makes for a more natural sounding recording.
Also, omni mics are not prone to proximity effect, wind, pop, and handling noise. Omni mics also excel at handling high sound
pressure levels, which makes them suitable for close-miking loud sound sources. Another plus is that sounds coming from the
sides of the mic aren't dulled as they are with directional mics. So, before you decide on using a direction make as a default,
always try an omni first.
Requires phantom power.
