EMG-85 Active Humbucking Pickups
Although the EMG-85 humbuckers have more measurable output than 81s, their frequency responses and string interfaces are different.
The 85 pickups use two Alnico magnet-loaded coils with wide aperture to maintain beefy low ends and fatter top ends. Because
of a more natural tone, they work great as rhythm and blues pickups because they have loads of output but aren't muddy. They're
a perfect choice as a rhythm pickup in combination with an 81 in the bridge.
The midranges have great definition and
don't get foggy or muddy in the rhythm position. These pickups work best if you like the natural distortion that comes from
overdriving the front end of your amp. Under any condition, the pickups respond accurately to your technique.
